Webb and Hubble Space Telescopes Capture Detailed Views of DART Asteroid Impact
These images, Hubble on left and Webb on the right, show observations of the Didymos-Dimorphos system several hours after NASA’s Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) intentionally impacted the moonlet asteroid. It was the world’s first test of the kinetic impact technique using a spacecraft to deflect an asteroid by modifying its orbit. Both Webb and Hubble observed the asteroid before and after the collision took place. Hubble Space Telescope Detects Protective Shield Defending a Pair of Dwarf Galaxies
Lead Image: Scientists have used spectroscopic observations of ultraviolet light from quasars to detect and map the Magellanic Corona, a diffuse halo of hot, supercharged gas surrounding the Small and Large Magellanic Clouds. Shown in purple, the corona stretches more than 100,000 light-years from the main mass of stars, gas, and dust that make up the Magellanic Clouds, intermingling with the hotter and more extensive corona that surrounds the Milky Way. Credit: NASA, ESA, Leah Hustak (STScI) Researchers confirm the existence of the elusive Magellanic Corona, a protective halo of hot, ionized gas previously known only in theory. For billions…

New Research Links Red Meat Consumption to a 22% Higher Risk of Heart Disease
Lead Image: The study also found that consuming fish, poultry, and eggs was not associated with heart disease. Blood sugar, general inflammation, and microbiome-related metabolites like TMAO seem to be more crucial in regulating heart disease risk than blood pressure or cholesterol levels. Is there a link between consuming more meat, particularly red and processed meat, and an increased risk of cardiovascular disease? If so, why? The effects of foods derived from animals on atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) are hotly contested despite extensive research, and the mechanisms behind any possible impacts of animal proteins are still unknown. Understanding the effects…

4 Hygiene Tips for Bed Bound Seniors
Assisting a relative or friend who is forced to spend all their time in bed can be challenging, and you might find yourself a bit unsure of how to properly care for them. Hygiene is incredibly important and can help prevent bed sores and infections, so care and attention should be taken to help them keep clean. Here are some important ways you can promote good hygiene for a bed-bound senior. Keep the Bedding Clean Changing the sheets and bedding on a bed-bound senior’s bed is of the utmost importance since they’re spending almost all their time in the bed,…

NASA’s Planetary Defense Test: DART About To Impact an Asteroid
Lead Image: This illustration depicts NASA’s Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) spacecraft prior to impact at the Didymos binary asteroid system. Credit: NASA/Johns Hopkins APL/Steve Gribben Trying to impact an asteroid is a bold and complex undertaking. JPL is there to assist with navigators, communications, and more. NASA’s Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) mission has the challenging goal of crashing its spacecraft into a small asteroid on Monday, September 26. Its target is Dimorphos, a small moonlet orbiting a larger asteroid by the name of Didymos. Although the asteroid poses no threat to Earth, this mission will test technology that…
