Samsung to announce a true “mini” flagship?

If the rumored Samsung Galaxy S7 Mini turns out to be real, there isn’t much to be surprised about in its existence. Samsung has launched “mini” variants of its previous flagships too, though they didn’t follow that trend when it came to the Galaxy S6. Why release a “mini” version now? Maybe because Apple is rumored to launch a smaller iPhone next week and Samsung wants a competitor in place but the kind of “mini” phones Samsung has launched in the past couldn’t really hold their own against an iPhone. Samsung’s solution? A true mini flagship.

Isn’t it strange to think that phones that passed as large only a few years ago are being sold as compact and mini today. Thankfully, phones have slowed down and no longer are trying to challenge tablets.

Following in Sony’s footsteps, the Galaxy S7 Mini is not a watered down version of the S7 as here is what the phone is supposedly packing: Snapdragon 820 or Exynos 8890 as its SoC, 3 GB of RAM, a 12 MP primary camera and a screen with a resolution of 720p, all of this in a device which is just 9.9 mm thick. While the resolution might sound disappointing, until we know how large the screen is, we can’t really say if the density would be too low to offer a flagship experience.

As SamMobile reminds us, all of this is nothing more than speculation at this point but you can be sure that we’ll keep you posted about any developments. Let us know if this has got you interested in the comments below.
