Ever wondered when Apple would bring back the iPhone SE? Well, now you do. They brought back the low end iPhone because their sales in the high end market (iPhone 8) was declining, and with the onslaught of the corona pandemic, they are unable to sell that many products. Apple was supposed to release the iPhone 9, but scrapped it and launched iPhone SE instead. Apple is now referencing it to the 2020 SE.
iPhone SE Features:
Processor:
It comes with the latest processor, A13 Bionic which is on the iPhone 11 series. It uses the latest 7nm+ process node which offers excellent power efficiency compared to the previous chips.
Storage:
The storage variants are 64, 128, and 256GB, with just a measly 3GB RAM. Some have rumoured the ram to be using the latest LPDDR4x standard, but there’s no point if the RAM is fast, as 3GB is barely usable these days. All of Apple’s 2019 flagships use 4GB RAM.
Battery:
The battery capacity stays at 1821mAh which is the same capacity on the iPhone 8. But since the A13 bionic is a really power efficient chip, , it will offer greater efficiency and provide a longer battery life than the previous iPhones.
Charging:
For charging, you get a 5w charger in the box, but it supports 18w charging, and if you want the faster charger, you will have to shell out an additional $29 for that. But it would be worth the extra cost as you get to charge the battery to 50% in half an hour! There’s fast wireless charging added too!
Display:
You get a 4.7-inch “Retina HD” screen with True Tone and support for Dolby Vision and HDR10 playback. At the bottom is a capacitive touch ID fingerprint sensor that’s covered in sapphire crystal.
Camera:
The camera is a single 12 MP f/1.8 shooter which is similarly used in the iPhone 11 pro. It features improved smart HDR photography thanks to the amazing power in the A13 Bionic. For portrait shots, Apple has gone with a new feature called “monocular depth sensing” where machine learning is used to detect depth and faces. The camera has added “cinematic” video stabilization and you can record up to 4K at 60fps, with stereo audio. The front-facing selfie cam is still a 7 MP unit, and this has some portrait mode effects too.
Other features:
You get the all new Wifi-6, Gigabit 4G LTE with carrier aggregation, and dual sims, with the second sim being an e-sim. 3D touch is replaced with Haptic touch, and the phone now has IP67 rating, where you can use the phone underwater at a depth of 1 meter, for a period of just 30 minutes. You get 0.7 inches of extra screen compared to the previous iPhone model, and that’s still compact compared to today’s standards.
The iPhone SE is one of the few compact phones out there. Recently, we did an article on compact Android phones. You can check it out.
Prices:
The prices start at $399 in the US, for the 64GB version, $449 for 128GB and $549 for 256GB. It’s more expensive in other markets as shown in the image below. The phone will be on pre-order in this Friday on 17th April, and will on the 24th.
The prices seem decent considering it’s the cheapest iPhone out there. So, do you think the iPhone SE is the right iPhone for you? Do let us know in the comments below!
