Lately we have been hearing a lot of news about modular smartphones such as Google’s project Ara but what came first is a modular smartwatch by BLOCKS. They finally ended their kickstarter status and started pre orders.
Let’s start with the specifications of the watch:
- 1.39 inch AMOLED display
- 400×400 resolution
- Snapdragon 2100 (made specifically for smartwatches)
- 512MB RAM
- 4GB Storage
- 300 mAh battery
- Android M
- Steel case
BLOCKS showed us 6 different modules that can be used to customize the watch and are easy to swap between one another. Perhaps the least exciting aspect is that this watch doesn’t run Android, but the user experience they’re showing off does seem rather well-rounded, and should prove to be both simple and powerful enough to meet a wide range of needs. Apps will be offered through the BLOCKS app on an Android phone with 4.0 or higher, or iOS 8 on an iPhone 4S or higher. This app would also allow you to change watch faces and customize other bits of the experience.
Like most other smartwatches, you’ll be able to call or message anyone and interact with built in apps through the watch face.
Its not exactly a pocket friendly watch but for $330 you’re getting the watch along with 4 extra modules of your choice! (Pre orders only). We expect this watch to do wonders in the market consdering how much support it got on kickstarter. What do you think?
