Ever thought about living past 105? It all depends on your genetic code!

People always wonder what the key to living a long life is. While your diet, exercise, attitude, stress level, and sleep may play a part, a recent study identified another factor that could determine your longevity. According to the new study, a majority of people who live past 105 years old have this one thing in common – A unique genetic background! This is the first time that people with ‘extreme longevity’ have had their genomes decoded in such detail, providing clues as to why they live so long and manage to avoid age-related diseases. “Aging is a common risk…

Virgin Galactic’s rocket plane flies to edge of space and the company aims to offer tourist flights

A Virgin Galactic manned shuttle has made a rocket-powered flight from New Mexico to the fringe of space. The VSS Unity’s rocket motor sent the ship and two pilots toward space as the company moves towards offering tourist flights to the edge of the Earth’s atmosphere. A live feed by NASASpaceFlight.com showed the rocket ship accelerating upward, estimated a top altitude of at least 50 miles and confirmed a landing later via radar. It was a crucial milestone for the company as it forges toward offering tourist flights to the edge of the Earth’s atmosphere. Virgin Galactic founder Sir Richard…

ARM announces the new v9 architecture, to introduce custom core X2, Cortex A710, A510 along with new Mali GPUs

ARMv8 has been around for a long time. This is the first 64-bit version of the ARM architecture, and now it’s time to move on to ARMv9. ARM is not exactly jumping to 128-bit, but it does bring the end of 32-bit designs. ARM is planning to take Cortex-A cores 64-bit only by 2023 and it is working with its partners to ensure that the software ecosystem is ready to wave goodbye to 32-bit apps (a process that ARM hopes will be completed by the end of this year). Arm’s CPU designs are used in the vast majority of Android…

CRISPR Gene editing reduces LDL cholesterol in monkeys by 60% in just a week!

According to the CDC, heart disease is the leading cause of death for men, women, and people of most racial and ethnic groups in the United States. It is estimated that one person dies every 36 seconds in the United States from cardiovascular disease. Now, scientists have now successfully used CRISPR base editors to turn off the gene that produces low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol in monkeys. The research, if replicable on humans, could help eradicate a major cause of heart disease. A single shot of gene therapy lowers “bad” cholesterol by about 60% for at least 8 months in monkeys, a new study reports…

European Space Agency to set up GPS and telecom services on the moon by 2030

The European Space Agency (ESA) has unveiled fresh plans to lay the groundwork for permanent human presence on the moon with a constellation of lunar satelliels, which will provide navigation and telecommunication services to lunar explorers. . The ESA wants to build a new, satellite-powered telecoms and navigation system that all future missions to our closest celestial body could use. More than a dozen European companies have signed contracts to draw up detailed plans. If all goes according to plan, the new system could be in place in the late 2020s, only a few years after the expected landing of…
