LeEco announces Le 1s in India, Initial Impressions!

LeEco? Sounds familiar!

According to me, when contents are not enough, visuals and graphics are the only things that attract users and boost marketing! Recently, LeTv re-branded itself to LeEco and presented itself with a brand new (and awesome) logo!  “Letv is where we started, but LeEco is our future,” said Ablikim Ablimit, Le Holdings’ Vice President of Strategy, “We will create a more beautiful eco world with new value for our users. And our brand-new logo will bring users into this exciting world.” “The new logo consists of the letters “L” and “E”, conveying the quintessence of the Le Eco world with its simple and elegant design. The four strokes which comprise “LE” each represent one of the four tiers of the Le Ecosystem – Platform, Content, Device and Application.” they wrote in a press statement.

“When contents are not enough, visuals and graphics are the only things that attract users and boost marketing!”

Le 1s a concrete concept?

Although Le 1s is a budget offering from the company it still packs decent but impressive specs. The phone features a fingerprint scanner (they call it LeTouch) for an affordable price of ₹10,999. This makes it the first phone to boast a fingerprint scanner at such a low price tag! Registrations are now open and the phone will be available through a flash sale starting February 2, 12:00PM on e-commerce giant Flipkart.

The Design

Design-wise, the Le 1s sports a full metal body built with plastic strips on the edge. The speaker grills are located at the bottom of the phone (a lot like my Nexus 5). Most of the design is replicated from Apple’s iPhone. Even the colour of this phone remind you of iPhone’s Rose Gold edition. The camera and flash unit is positioned on the top left corner on the back. The back is sand-blasted for a nice matte texture. Also, a finferprint scanner is placed on the back side of the phone like the Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X.

The Display

The Le 1s boasts a 5.5″ full high definition screen (a resolution of 1920×1080) and brightness worth 500 nits. Watching movies or playing games was no issue, thanks to its bright and vivid display. The viewing angles of the phone are also impressive! This particular screen size is suitable for those who prefer to watch movies and videos on their phones all the time.

The Heart

This phone is powered by MediaTek’s latest Mt6795 Helios X10 octa-core processor (2.2GHz) coupled with 3 GB of RAM. With this combination, one should never face any signs of lags. Oh, and thanks to Power VR G6200 GPU this phone doesn’t disappoint on running graphics heavy games like Modern Combat 5 or Asphalt 8 on this phone. Using this phone for prolonged period gave us no heating problems. The phone is bundled with a 32 GB of internal storage which is, in fact, more than enough for an average user. It is quit disappointing that the phone doesn’t feature NFC and DLNA. The phone’s 3,000 mAh battery supports fast charging allowing at least one hour of standby time with just five minutes of charging. The phone supports the latest USB C type standard. It is to be noted that USB C type is a relatively new concept and that cables are not available everywhere like the current standard, micro USB. For micro USB users, Flippy, a micro USB cable by Dott is the first truly reversible cable (what USB C types are famous for) available in market. Coming back to Le 1s, the phone supports dual 4G sim cards.

Software

The Le 1s runs Android Lollipop 5.0.2 on the base with proprietary EUI 5.5 user interface on top. The EUI is a simple user interface with no bloatware or inside menus. It is to be noted that not only the phone but also the software heavily resembles the software on iPhones. All apps can be accessed from the home screens. The shortcuts can be reached from the bottom part of the screen by pressing the square shaped button on the right. The phone also comes with LeCloud where users can store extra data.

Camera

Letv’s Le 1s has a 13-megapixel rear camera which it claims, takes 0.09 second to auto-focus along with a LED flash. The rear camera takes really good and detailed pictures in all kind of lighting conditions. However, the quality deteriorates as soon as the flash is turned down in low light conditions. The front five-megapixel camera is perfect for selfies and video chats. The phone also supports 4K recording which is yet another impressive feature for this price tag! The camera app offers users with 4 modes to choose from, namely slow motion, video, still capture and panorama.

Verdict

If you’re the one who are looking for a phone which can compete up to 2 years, this is the phone where your search ends. With a high end processor and GPU bundled with a fingerprint scanner within a low price tag, it’s worth giving a shot.

  1. A very good and detailed post.

It’s clearly visible the this model of LeEco can give a good comparisons to other similar phones in the market, and the cost is seem under budget.

I am afraid that it would go out of stack within 20 minutes of 1st day sale of Flipkart.
